Minor league baseball player Carlton Garrett takes an unplanned road trip to find his estranged father, legendary baseball player Kyle Garrett, after his mother becomes ill. Knowing that his father is charming, yet extremely immature, he brings along his sometimes girlfriend for support. Morris Buttermaker is an alcoholic pest removal worker and for a very short period of time a former professional baseball player, is recruited to coach and train a failing baseball team. All of these twelve-year-olds have been thrown out of the league. After losing every game they have played in so far, the kids force the coach to straighten up and teach them how to win before the season is over.
